Handsome Monica, Fenway Parks Among Great Names In 2014 MLB Draft

Every major North American sports league has its fair share of interesting names, but for some reason, this year’s MLB draft features an above average amount of them.

Some are baseball-themed, and some are just plain awesome. Not all of them will be drafted, but they can take consolation in the fact that they have some of the best names, even if they’re not the best at baseball.

Handsome Monica is a Louisiana catcher/first baseman who committed to Arizona. Scouts say he can hit for power, but if he’s drafted, it will be in the late rounds. Scouts have not said, however, whether or not he’s actually handsome.

Mat Batts hasn’t received much notable attention for his baseball skills, but it’s notable that he’s a pitcher.

Cre Finfrock is a right-handed pitcher who hit 94 mph on the radar gun in high school and has serious potential to be drafted. His name also is really fun to say.

Outfielder Joey Pankake actually was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of high school in 2011, but he went on to play at South Carolina. Like Handsome Monica, Pankake will go in the late rounds if he’s drafted again. We’re also craving breakfast now.

Fenway Parks just finished high school. In Florida. His real first name is Kyle, but just about everyone calls him Fenway. Parks is (luckily) a huge Boston Red Sox fan, and although it’s likely he will go undrafted this year, he actually has numbers to break into the big leagues — and hopefully someday play at his namesake ballpark.
