Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is asking to be transferred out of Bristol County Jail.
The motion states the trip from Boston to North Dartmouth, Mass., that Hernandez’s lawyers must travel to work with their client is simply too far.
“He needs to be held in a facility that does not require his counsel to drive from two, up to three to four hours round-trip each time they need to meet with him,” Hernandez’s attorney said.
The motion also accuses Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson of collecting evidence for the prosecution. According to Hernandez’s attorneys, Hodgson “abandoned his role as a professional jailer, and instead, energetically embraced a role as a full-time agent of the District Attorney.”
Hernandez’s attorneys also said the 24-year-old isn’t safe in the Bristol County Jail because he has been accused of threatening to kill a guard. “The Sheriff clearly has an actual conflict of interest,” his attorneys said.
