Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig proved over the weekend that there’s no safe place for an umpire when he nearly took out the home plate ump with a bat flip.
It’s safe to say that Adam Jones one-upped Puig on Saturday.
The Baltimore Orioles outfielder sent first base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt tumbling to the ground in the fifth inning while trying to advance from first to second base after a throwing error from Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie.
That’s gotta hurt.
Wendelstedt was fortunately OK after the play, although he was given Sunday’s series finale off to recover from the unfortunate collision.
Hunter Wendelstedt, who was first base umpire when Adam Jones ran into him yesterday, was scratched.—
