Asdrubal CabreraBoston Red Sox fans who stayed up to watch Wednesday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians saw it turn into Thursday morning’s game. They also saw the Sox suffer a disappointing defeat.

After a rain delay that lasted two and a half hours, Boston was swept out of Cleveland by the upstart Tribe, who now have won six in a row and escaped the AL Central basement. Not only did the Indians sweep the Red Sox, but they swept their entire six-game homestand.

Cleveland infielder Asdrubal Cabrera played the role of hero Thursday morning when he came to the plate in the bottom of the 12th inning in a tie game with runners on first and third. That’s when he got an Edward Mujica pitch that did nothing other than stay right in the middle of the plate and made him pay. Cabrera turned on the pitch and drove it deep to right for the walk-off home run.

Adding insult to injury, Cabrera slid into home plate, with his teammates waiting to start the party.
