Bartolo Colon’s at-bats are becoming the the highlight of his starts.

The 41-year-old pitcher came back to the National League this year for the first time since 2002, and it shows. With the way he handles the stick, he’s making a case for a designated hitter in both leagues.

Colon does have two hits this season, but his struggles have stood out. He again had some issues at the plate Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Incredibly, Colon loses his helmet twice during one plate appearance against Edinson Volquez. You can’t question the effort — he takes some solid hacks. The execution, on the other hand, is poor at best.

Things didn’t go well on the mound for Colon, either, as he was charged with all five runs in a 5-2 Mets loss.
