If Avery Bradley receives a contract offer from any other NBA team, the Boston Celtics would have the right to match it.
The Celtics secured their right to first refusal by extending their qualifying offer to Bradley on Monday, making the 23-year-old guard a restricted free agent. The team did not disclose terms of the deal but the salary-keeping site ShamSports lists the qualifying offer at just under $3.6 million.
The value of the qualifying offer itself is not as relevant as the Celtics’ right to match, however. Until Bradley is signed, either by the Celtics or another team, Boston will have a cap “hold” of 250 percent of Bradley’s previous salary, or about $6.3 million.
Bradley reportedly turned down a four-year, $24 million contract extension from the Celtics before last season. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound off-guard averaged a career-high 14.9 points per game on 44 percent shooting but was limited to 60 games due to injuries.
