Chile v Australia: Group B - 2014 FIFA World Cup BrazilChile struck early and late in its Group B game against Australia in the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Friday en route to a 3-1 victory in Cuiaba, Brazil.

Chile’s Alexis Sanchez scored 10 minutes in, and Jorge Valdivia tallied another goal just four minutes later. Australia (and New York Red Bulls) midfielder Tim Cahill scored in the 35th minute, but his effort went for naught when Chile put the game out of reach with a Jean Beausejour goal in stoppage time.

Chile pulled into second place in Group B after the Netherlands demolished defending World Cup champion Spain 5-1.

Chile’s next challenge will be Spain, which might be down and out after giving up more goals Friday than it did in the entire 2010 World Cup. Australia will take on the Netherlands.
