Cristiano Ronaldo was an unlikely hero for USA soccer Thursday.

Ronaldo’s go-ahead goal over Ghana clinched Team USA’s berth in the 2014 FIFA World Cup’s Round of 16. The Americans moved on despite losing to Germany 1-0.

Ronaldo’s goal put Portugal up 2-1 in the 80th minute.
