Devin McCourty: Greg Schiano Is A Tougher Coach Than Bill Belichick

Count Devin McCourty among those on Team Edelman.

The New England Patriots safety told “NESN Live” co-hosts Elle Duncan and Sarah Davis that Julian Edelman is more difficult to cover than Patriots-turned-Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker.

“Julian Edelman,” McCourty answered on Monday’s show debut. “We don’t ever root for any Broncos around here.”

McCourty had to go with his quarterback when deciding who is the better dresser between Edelman and Tom Brady, however.

“You gotta go with the teacher, because he started it,” McCourty said. “Tom started it and Julian followed. I’ll give Julian one, he thinks he’s like an actor. He thinks he’s a pretty famous actor.”

McCourty had a surprising answer when asked who is the tougher head coach between Greg Schiano — whom he played under at Rutgers — and the Patriots’ Bill Belichick.

“Ooh, Greg Schiano,” McCourty said. “Toughest coach I’ve ever played for.

“He’s more of a yeller and a screamer. He’ll get right in your face. Bill’s more sarcastic. Both can be pretty brutal, but I’m gonna go with Coach Schiano.”

Belichick might favor drafting and signing Schiano-coached players because if they can survive under the former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, playing for the Patriots will appear like a cake walk.

The Patriots currently have six Schiano-coached players on their 90-man roster: defensive backs McCourty, Logan Ryan, Duron Harmon and Darrelle Revis, linebacker Steve Beauharnais and defensive tackle Chris Jones.
