Eastern Michigan unveiled on Thursday its plans for a new turf design, which includes an all-gray football playing surface at Rynearson Stadium.

The school plans to invest in new FieldTurf technology for the stadium that newly hired head coach Chris Creighton coined “The Factory.”

“We didn’t do it for the novelty of it because it’s been done,” Eastern Michigan athletic director Heather Lyke said. “We did it because it makes sense for us, and we really believe that this is a place that produces champions.”

Here’s a look at the proposed field design.

The Eagles join five other college football teams that already have a non-traditional color on its playing surface. Those schools are Boise State, Central Arkansas, Lindenwood University, University of New Haven and Eastern Washington.
