EdinhoEdinho was once the heir to the throne of Brazilian soccer. Now he’s going to the big house, instead of the castle.

A Brazilian court sentenced Edinho to 33 years in prison on Sunday for allegedly laundering money which was raised from drug trafficking. Edinho is expected to appeal the sentence, according to the BBC.

“He was first arrested in 2005 and has served a sentence for drug trafficking offences and links with a notorious drug dealer in the city of Santos,” the report says.

Edinho, 43, is the third son of soccer legend Pele. He played professionally as a goalkeeper with Santos (his father’s former club) and currently works there as a goalkeepers coach.

The sentence was delivered less than three weeks before the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
