Felix Doubront made his second minor league rehab start on Tuesday, and it didn’t go quite as well as his first.
The Boston Red Sox left-hander took the hill for Triple-A Pawtucket against the Louisville Bats and lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits while walking one batter and striking out three.
After working through four innings on just 43 pitches in his first rehab start with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs last Thursday, Doubront needed 75 pitches to make it through less than five innings and threw just 44 of those pitches for strikes. He left the game with two outs in the fourth inning with his team trailing 2-1.
The Red Sox lefty was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 21 with shoulder fatigue but is improving after rehabbing in the minors.
“My shoulder is lot better,” Doubront said after Thursday’s start. “I wish I started my year the way I feel now.”
The Red Sox have yet to announce where Doubront will make his next appearance.
