Felix Doubront is making strides in his effort to rejoin the Boston Red Sox’s starting rotation.
Doubront, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 21 with a left shoulder strain, will make his first rehab start Thursday with Double-A Portland, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. The left-hander threw a bullpen session before Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.
“Threw the ball well,” Farrell told reporters in Cleveland. “He feels confident that the arm speed and the ball is getting out of his hand consistent with outings prior coming off the mound.”
Doubront is expected to require at least two rehab starts before returning to the Red Sox’s rotation. The 26-year-old, who is 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA in nine starts this season, last pitched May 20 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
