Boxer Floyd Mayweather once again claimed the top spot on Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s highest-paid athletes. Mayweather knocked off 2013’s top earner, Tiger Woods, to reclaim the No.1 spot. The boxer also topped the list in 2012.
“I’m humbled and extremely fortunate to be recognized by Forbes as the highest-paid athlete once again,” Mayweather said, according to Yahoo! Sports. “I’m doing something no other athlete is doing, promoting myself and seeing my hard work pay off in the form of record-breaking numbers.
“It’s all about hard work and dedication which is so important and a key part of my financial success.”
Mayweather made a whopping $105 million in net revenue in the last year to top the list. The remarkable part about that total is that all of Mayweather’s earnings came from two fights — and no endorsements.
Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo ($80 million) and Miami Heat superstar LeBron James ($72.3 million) finished second and third, respectively. New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis was 40th, and Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was 80th — six spots behind former teammate Carl Crawford.
