Quin SnyderThe Utah Jazz have hired Quin Snyder as their next head coach, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today Sports.

Snyder, who spent last season as an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks, reached a deal with the Jazz on Friday night.

“The opportunity to join the Utah Jazz and to be part of such a highly respected franchise with an incredibly bright future is a great honor,” Snyder said in a news release from the Jazz. “I approach this opportunity with gratitude and humility and am committed to doing everything I can to help the Jazz become a championship-caliber team.”

Snyder was a point guard at Duke from 1985-1989, a team that went to the Final Four three times during that span. He was elected a team captain during his senior season with the Blue Devils.

The 47-year-old began his coaching career with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 1992-93 season, then served as an administrative assistant to men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski from 1993-1999.

He has coached for four different NBA teams in total before becoming Utah’s eighth head coach.
