Late-night host John Oliver made one fact abundantly clear Sunday night: He loves soccer, but he hates FIFA.
The “Daily Show” alum took soccer’s international governing body to task on his new show, “Last Week Tonight,” blasting FIFA and its president, Sepp Blatter, for a laundry list of issues that apply to both the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the highly controversial decision to grant the 2022 tournament to the tiny nation of Qatar.
It’s a thorough tongue-lashing, summed up by Oliver’s characterization of FIFA as a “comically grotesque organization.”
The 2014 World Cup begins this Thursday when Brazil faces Croatia.
