Any player can break their bat when they make contact with a ball, but only Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Marlon Byrd can snap his bat in half on a swing and a miss.
The rare and bizarre feat occurred during the sixth inning of Sunday’s Mets-Phillies game in Philadelphia. Byrd took a hearty cut at a Jonathan Niese fastball, and although he swung and he missed, his bat somehow ended up in two pieces.
Byrd was left looking confused yet amused, holding only the knob of the bat despite not even getting a piece of the ball on his swing.

While it’s likely that Byrd broke his bat on a previous swing, it’s much more fun to imagine that he has superhuman strength.
