New York Mets center fielder Matt den Dekker made two awesome plays on Monday night, and he did not make them on an empty stomach.

In the second inning of his team’s contest against the Philadelphia Phillies, den Dekker made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Ryan Howard of a solo home run. One inning later, den Dekker saved his team another run when he gunned down Reid Brignac with a perfect one-hop throw to home plate.

Most importantly, den Dekker did all this while chowing down on sunflower seeds, and he celebrated his efforts by pouring even more of the salty snack down his gullet.

The outfielder’s slick fielding didn’t make too much of a difference, as New York exploded for six runs in the ninth inning to cruise to an 11-2 win.

Yet if the Mets want some more web gems out of their 26-year-old prospect — who was recalled from the team’s minor league system earlier in the day — they know what they have to do: just buy him more seeds.
