There was more to the Charlotte Hornets’ uniform reveal than teal and purple.

The Hornets’ newly unveiled jerseys, in addition to a full overhaul of the color scheme, also feature the NBA logo on the back rather than the chest, a move the league confirmed Thursday will be applied to all teams beginning next season.

The seemingly minor alteration will have a greater impact than you might think.

For one, 18 of the NBA’s 30 teams — including the Boston Celtics — currently have their own logos in the spot where Jerry West’s silhouette will reside next season. Even more importantly, though, is the fact that the shift clears up valuable real estate on the front of the jersey that many believe soon will used to house advertisements.

The NBA would not comment on this possibility, saying only that the move was made for “stylistic reasons,” but commissioner Adam Silver previously has said that ads likely will be added to jerseys within the next five years.
