The world certainly doesn’t need more singing competitions, but we are definitely on board with the one the mayors of New York City and Los Angeles are engaging in over the outcome of the Stanley Cup Final.
After the governors of New York and California came up with the most ridiculously boring wager ever, the mayors are making up for their lack of creativity — and lack of desire to embarrass themselves.
Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio and mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti are going all out as the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers battle for the Cup, agreeing that the loser will have to sing a song about the winning team’s city on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” while handing out hot dogs from either Pink’s (L.A.) or Gray’s Papaya (NYC) to the entire audience.
If the Rangers, who are currently down 1-0 in the series should win, Gancetti will be forced to sing Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” on national television.
“Start spreading the news, it’s been over 20 years since the Stanley Cup has found its home in New York City, and we look forward to it making its way here,” de Blasio said in a statement. “Let’s go Rangers.”
But if the Kings win their second Stanley Cup title in three years, De Blasio will have to sing Randy Newman’s classic, “I Love L.A.”
“Looks like another perfect day — for the Kings to take home the Stanley Cup,” Garcetti said. “From the west side to the east side, the Kings will reign. Go Kings Go!”
Good luck finding fans who will be cheering harder for their respective teams than these two gentleman.
