When it comes to prospective Super Bowl host cities, the NFL is not shy about making demands.
The Star Tribune obtained and shared Sunday a 153-page document detailing the requests made to the Minnesota Super Bowl Bid Committee in order for it to secure the right to host the game in 2018.
Many are obvious — the stadium lights must meet the league’s standards for brightness, for example — but some are a bit more out there.
For instance, one of the demands states that the NFL and its partners will receive free passes to “top-quality” area golf courses during the summer and fall of 2017. Another requires the committee to book two “top-quality bowling venues” for the Celebrity Bowling Classic, again without the league paying a dime.
Continuing with the “complimentary” vibe, the NFL also asked the host city to foot the bill for a 180-person “familiarization trip,” which would allow league officials to “inspect the region.”
Minnesota’s committee was not required to meet every demand, and a list on which ones it did and did not comply with has not been released. If you have time to churn through all 153 pages, though, you can peruse the full list right here.
