Pawtucket Red Sox infielder Carlos Rivero took home some personal accolades after concluding a solid week at the plate.
After recording a hit in all seven games last week, Rivero was named the International League Batter of the Week. The 26-year-old hit .429 for the week with 12 hits during the seven-game span, raising his season batting average to .286. He also scored six times, drove in five runs and compiled three extra-base hits. His efforts helped Pawtucket conclude a 5-2 stretch, putting the team within two games of the top wild card spot.
The Venezuelan native struggled after getting called up to Triple-A, as he hit just .179 through eight games in the month of May. But Rivero has gotten hot with the weather, and is hitting .319 to go along with a .375 on-base percentage in June.
Rivero has yet to reach the big leagues, but was named an International League All-Star during the 2012 season when he played with the Syracuse Chiefs. This is his first year with the Red Sox organization.
