Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand isn’t going anywhere, according to B’s general manager Peter Chiarelli.
Reports surfaced Thursday night that the Bruins and San Jose Sharks discussed a trade that would send Marchand to San Jose in exchange for veteran forward Patrick Marleau. Apparently those reports were so untrue that Chiarelli decided to shoot them down Friday morning.
“I have had no discussions for Marchand and I have no plans to trade him,” Chiarelli told WEEI.com “I don’t make it a practice to respond to reports in the social media but occasionally it is necessary.”
Marchand is coming off a season in which he played all 82 games for the Bruins. He scored 25 goals and added 28 assists despite a slow start to the season. He fell off in a big way once the playoffs started, though. Marchand was held scoreless and registered just five points in 12 games before the B’s were eliminated in the second round by the Montreal Canadiens.
Marchand has just five goals in his last 41 playoff games.
The 26-year-old still has three years left on a four-year, $18 million contract that carries a $4.5 million annual salary cap hit.
