The Boston Red Sox could not pull off their third straight win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon after some costly late-inning defensive errors.
In the top of the seventh with the Red Sox clinging to a 2-1 lead, second baseman Dustin Pedroia picked up a ground ball and threw it home to try and nab an advancing Asdrubal Cabrera. Yet catcher A.J. Pierzynski dropped the throw, and the Indians tied up the score.
“I just missed it,” Pierzynski said of his miscue. “Pedey made a great play on it. That’s why he’s a Gold Glover, and I’m not.”
