Ray Allen is almost 39 years old, and he’s been playing in the NBA since 1996. He’s now a role player for the Miami Heat, a guy they turn to when they need a big 3-pointer.
On Thursday night in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, though, Allen showed he’s still got a little bit of spring left in those 38-year-old legs.
LeBron James’ cramps and a lack of air conditioning overshadowed the San Antonio Spurs’ Game 1 win, and it also overshadowed a rare aerial display from Allen.
The probable Hall of Famer was able to get a steal near the Miami basket, and then he just took off with the ball. Allen went coast to coast before shedding a defender (perhaps illegally) and taking off from inside the key. He raised up and threw down the rare slam dunk.
It was a solid cap to a fine night for the longtime sharp-shooter. Allen finished Game 1 with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting in 32:20 of playing time.
