NBA: Boston Celtics-Brad Stevens-Press ConferenceAfter finishing 25-57 during the 2013-14 season, the Boston Celtics are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to better their team before the 2014 NBA draft.

A league source told Comcast SportsNet New England that the Celtics have reached out to the Cleveland Cavaliers about acquiring the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday’s draft.

CSNNE reported that while “no deal is imminent,” the Cavs have been listening to more offers for the No. 1 pick since University of Kansas center Joel Embiid underwent foot surgery earlier this month. Cleveland was expected to pick Embiid, but his injury will keep him out for at least four months.

The Celtics are interested in Embiid and would draft him if team doctors believe he’d be worth the risk. However, if they do acquire the top pick, they would likely choose Kansas forward Andrew Wiggins or Duke forward Jabari Parker over Embiid.

The Celtics currently own the No. 6 and No. 17 picks in the first round of the draft.
