LeBron James was the first to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat this past week, then Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh followed suit shortly after.
In the wake of their decisions, the trio of stars has been discussing financial terms of their contracts with one another, according to ESPN.com’s Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne.
Windhorst and Shelburne report that the meetings could be an indication that James plans to re-sign with Miami once he becomes a free agent on Tuesday.
James, Wade and Bosh have discussed the possibility of James earning the highest salary on the team, according to ESPN sources, which is something he hasn’t done in his entire 11-year NBA career.
The Heat have a league-high $55 million available in cap space now that James, Wade, Bosh and Udonis Haslem have all opted out of their deals.
If the three stars all take significant pay cuts to stay in Miami, it would give team president Pat Riley enough cap space to sign a free agent point guard, like 28-year-old Kyle Lowry. Lowry and the Heat have expressed “mutual interest” in one another.
