LeBron James might be on the move.
ESPN’s Chris Broussard reported Tuesday morning that James’ agent informed the Miami Heat that the superstar will opt out of his contract. That means James will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

James’ decision to exercise the early termination clause means he’s walking away from the $20.5 million he would have made during the 2014-15 season. However, the decision to opt out doesn’t necessarily mean he’s done in Miami. The NBA offseason just got a lot more interesting, though, as there are a handful of teams that seem able to maneuver the salary cap in order to make a run at the game’s best player.
The 29-year-old James is in the prime of his career. He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 57 percent from the field.
James’ decision comes a day after fellow superstar Carmelo Anthony decided to opt out of his contract with the New York Knicks. James and Anthony were both picked in the 2003 NBA draft with James going first overall to Cleveland and Anthony being selected at No. 3 by the Denver Nuggets.
