An early race crash sent Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. into the garage, forcing him to settle for a 41st-place finish in Sunday’s FedEx 400 at Dover International Speedway.
After A.J. Allmendinger drove in front of Stenhouse and bumped into fellow Roush driver Greg Biffle, Stenhouse crashed into his teammate during the 131st lap. Both cars went to the garage and were out of contention. Stenhouse’s crew was unable to repair his No. 17 Ford. This was Stenhouse’s first DNF in 49 races.
Roush partner Biffle did not fair much better, finishing 38th in the race. Meanwhile, Carl Edwards finished 14th in his No. 99 Ford.
Stenhouse stated that his car was “really loose” throughout the race. The loose-handling machine put Stenhouse back early and he was fighting for the “lucky dog” position at the time of the crash.
“We didn’t want it to end that way and we got our teammate caught up in it and tore up a lot of cars,” said Stenhouse after the race. “That is not what we wanted to do. It is a tough way to end to our day. It is a bummer.”
This was Stenhouse’s fourth career Sprint Cup start as he qualified in the 26th position for the race at Dover. Stenhouse and the Roush Fenway Racing team heads to Pocono Raceway for the Pocono 400 on Sunday.
