With the NHL taking a two-day break before the Stanley Cup Final begins Wednesday, fans will have to rely on the WNBA for their fix of big hits.

Wait, what?

Sure, the country’s premier women’s basketball league (or any basketball league, for that matter) isn’t known for having its players lay the lumber. Sometimes, though, aggressive screen-setting and defensive recklessness combine to create the sport’s version of a bone-crushing body check.

That’s what happened Sunday night in Seattle, when a half-court pick by Storm forward Crystal Langhorne caused Tulsa Shock guard Skylar Diggins to hit the parquet like a sack of potatoes.

BOOM.

Langhorne was called for an offensive foul on the play, but the whistle ended up being inconsequential in the end. She went on to score a game-high 23 points as the Storm edged the winless Shock 62-60.
