Stephen Drew, Rob DrakeStephen Drew is out of Monday’s lineup against the Baltimore Orioles due to an oblique injury, manager John Farrell told reporters before the game.

The Boston Red Sox have eased Drew back into game action after the veteran re-signed, as he has played in just four games since rejoining the team. Drew has struggled at the plate, but he has experienced success against right-hander Bud Norris, who is getting the start for the O’s, going 6-for-13 against him.

His benching raised some eyebrows until Farrell explained that Drew experienced tightness in his right oblique during his final at-bat of Sunday’s series finale against the Detroit Tigers, and he’s now listed as day to day, according to CSNNE’s Sean McAdam.

Jonathan Herrera will get the start at shortstop in the series opener at Camden Yards.
