The 6-year-old cousin of Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson was stabbed to death and a 7-year-old girl was seriously wounded in a Brooklyn apartment elevator on Sunday night, according to the New York Post.

The boy, Prince Joshua “P.J.” Avitto, was on his way to get ice cream with the young girl outside of the building at around 6 p.m., WPIX-TV New York reports, when a man identified as a “heavy set black male wearing a gray sweatshirt” carrying a butcher’s knife attacked the two children in what seems to be a senseless, disgusting and inexplicable attack.

After the assault, the suspect fled the scene and left behind the knife. Officials have released a sketch of the suspect. There were no surveillance cameras on scene.

Gibson took out his emotions on Instagram writing, “They killed my lil super man.”

The girl, Mikayla Capers, was taken to Brookdale Hospital after being chased outside by the attacker and collapsing. She is expected to live.

The callous knife attack comes just days after an 18-year-old woman was stabbed 32 times in the chest in East New York. Officials do not know whether the two attacks are related.
