If Argentina is going to win the World Cup on enemy territory this year, they’re going to need Lionel Messi to play the way he did on Sunday.
Messi’s goal in the 65th minute proved to be the difference maker as Argentina defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2-1, in Group F play.
The scoring started early for the Argentinians. It took just three minutes for them to get on the board as they took advantage of a Bosnian own goal to get on top, 1-0.
Messi’s goal in the middle of the second half put Argentina up by two, and it was a beauty. After receiving a pass from Gonzalo Higuain, Messi took a left-footed shot from above the box which beat the Bosnian keeper and gave Argentina a 2-0 lead.
Bosnia had a late rally as Vedad Ibisevic scored the team’s lone goal in the 84th minute. However, Argentina played keep away for the rest of the game to secure the win.
Argentina dominated possession for most of the game, controlling the ball for 59 percent of the time.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when Argentina plays Iran and Bosnia takes on Nigeria.
