Yasiel Puig’s Bat Flip Goes Wild, Almost Strikes Umpire, Catcher (Video)

Yasiel Puig has mastered the bat flip to the point where legendary Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully called him the “maestro” of bat flips earlier this year.

Puig doesn’t limit his bat flips to home runs, either. We’ve seen him do it for triples, doubles, and now, apparently, walks. His latest bat flip came after a ball four in an at-bat Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and it almost caused some severe bodily harm. The bat went flying in the air and almost caught home plate umpire Bill Welke and catcher Miguel Montero in the head.

Even the “maestro” of the bat flip can lose control in the art of bat flipping.

While Scully has been forgiving of Puig’s bat flips in more dramatic and productive scenarios, he wasn’t pleased with the Cuban outfielder this time around, and he had every reason not to be.
