Zack Cozart Hit In Head By Josh Beckett Pitch, Stays In Game (Video)

Josh Beckett has been really, really good lately, but his temporary lapse in control Tuesday night led to a scary situation in Cincinnati.

The Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander mowed down the Cincinnati Reds with a six-inning performance in which he allowed just two hits. However, it was one pitch that got away from him that led to a seemingly awful scene.

An 84-mph offering from Beckett in the bottom of the fifth slipped out of the hurler’s hand and went straight at Cincinnati’s Zack Cozart. The 2-2 pitch hit Cozart directly in the head, sending the Reds shortstop to the ground.

Cozart spent the next few moments on the ground, apparently in a lot of pain, before getting up to regain his bearings. Apparently everything checked out for Cozart and the Reds medical staff, though. Cozart stayed in the game after getting hit up high. He then lined an RBI single in his next at-bat.

Coincidentally, Cozart has been here before against the Dodgers, no less. He was drilled in the head by a pitch from LA righty Chad Billingsley during a 2012 game. Cozart left that game, but he did not spend any time on the disabled list.
