The rosters for the 2014 MLB All-Star Game were unveiled Sunday night, with the Boston Red Sox sending just one player to the Midsummer Classic at Target Field in Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 15.
Left-handed pitcher Jon Lester was selected to the American League squad by manager John Farrell to give Boston their mandatory representative. The southpaw could be joined by teammate and closer Koji Uehara, however, as he was named as a replacement if one of the 13 pitchers on the AL pitching staff is unable to participate.
As for other teams around the league, the first-place Oakland Athletics boast the most selections, sending six players to Target Field. Lefty Scott Kazmir, third baseman Josh Donaldson, catcher Derek Norris, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss and closer Sean Doolittle will all represent the A’s, who haven’t had this many players elected since 1975.
New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will be making his last All-Star appearance and he’ll be playing alongside former teammate Robinson Cano, as well.
The National League, meanwhile, will be led by the dynamic Yasiel Puig, who will be making his first start. It was Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, though, who earned the most votes in the NL, garnering 5.3 million, and he will serve as the team captain for the Home Run Derby on Monday.
The full rosters, which boast 34 players each, can be seen below. Only 33 of the players on both teams have been named so far, though, as the last spot on each squad is still up for grabs and will be decided via the “Final Vote” fan voting process.
