Jon Lester isn’t the only Boston Red Sox pitcher drawing interest from other teams as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Sox are also receiving plenty of calls for reliever Andrew Miller, who’s having an excellent year statistically from the bullpen.
Miller has a 2.45 ERA in 48 appearances for the Red Sox this year. He’s also struck out 65 hitters and opponents are hitting just .175 against him.
The southpaw, however, hasn’t found it easy to focus on baseball through all the trade rumors.
“It’s impossible to avoid,” Miller told NESN’s Gary Striewski. “It’s on TV, our agents and families are keeping track of it. It’s a distraction, but we face distractions everyday. We just have to zone it out, and it’s my job to focus on the hitter when I get that opportunity and to prepare the same way.”
Reports have the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates as possible suitors for Miller’s services.
