The Los Angeles Angels released veteran left-hander Rich Hill after he cleared waivers Friday, 10 days after acquiring him from the Boston Red Sox.
Hill, who signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox in January, went 3-3 with a 3.23 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched for Triple-A Pawtucket. Hill was traded to the Angels on July 1 in exchange for cash considerations, but he couldn’t replicate those numbers with Los Angeles.
Hill was shaky in the only two appearances he made with the Halos, allowing one hit, walking three batters and tossing a wild pitch to the four batters he faced. That was enough for the Angels to designate him for assignment — just four days after the trade — to make room for recently acquired lefty Joe Thatcher.
