Red Sox Start Brock Holt In Left Field, Mookie Betts In Right Vs. Cubs

brock holtThe Boston Red Sox returned home from a 10-game road trip Monday to host the Chicago Cubs. Their bats, however, arrived a bit late.

The Red Sox were no-hit by Cubs starter Jake Arrieta for 7 2/3 innings and finished with just two hits in a 2-0 loss.

It was far from an ideal outcome against a Cubs team that currently sits 14 1/2 games out of first place in the National League Central, but Red Sox manager John Farrell isn’t making any major changes to the lineup Tuesday night for Game 2 of the three-game series at Fenway Park.

A.J. Pierzynski, who led off the ninth inning Monday night with a pinch-hit single, will start behind the plate, and Jackie Bradley Jr. returns to his usual post in center field. Monday’s center fielder, rookie Mookie Betts, moves over to right field, and Mr. Flexible Brock Holt starts in left for the first time since June 16.

Opposing these Red Sox hitters will be Cubs right-hander Edwin Jackson, against whom both Pierzynski (8-for-24 career, two home runs) and David Ortiz (9-for-20, two homers, eight RBIs, six walks) have enjoyed great success.
