Arizona Cardinals v Tennessee TitansArizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald proved that the rumors back in January about him being traded to the New England Patriots were just that.

Fitzgerald told USA Today this week that he never heard about the trade that reportedly was explored last offseason, nor was he ever contacted by the Patriots.

“Nothing at all,” Fitzgerald said. “I mean, I heard stuff that was being said. But there was never a time where the team approached me. Nothing like that.”

The All-Pro wideout restructured his contract with Arizona in February, so trade rumors died out quickly. They could come back to life next season, however, as Fitzgerald’s 2015 salary cap number is set at $23.6 million.

Still, Fitzgerald himself isn’t worried about that.

“Whatever happens after the season, happens after the season,” Fitzgerald said. “But most of that stuff is out of my control anyway.”
