After shining on the world’s biggest stage at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, James Rodriguez is off to play for one of the most successful soccer clubs in history.
The Colombian striker officially signed with Real Madrid on Tuesday after the Spanish club reportedly paid close to $108 million to AS Monaco for his transfer fee.
Rodriguez’s contract with Real Madrid is for the next six seasons, and the transfer fee that the team paid to obtain him is the fourth-largest in history after Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.
Of course, Bale and Ronaldo both currently play for Real Madrid, meaning that the 2014 UEFA Champions League winners have three of the four most expensive signings in history on their team.
The 25-year-old Rodriguez gained significant attention after scoring six goals in the World Cup to win the Golden Boot, leading Colombia to the quarterfinals and dazzling the world with a volley against Uruguay that will be played in highlight reels for years to come.
He scored nine goals in 34 games for AS Monaco last season in Ligue 1 play.
