New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees said Friday that he’d like to play in the NFL for 10 more years. The NFL apparently wanted to make sure he isn’t cheating his way to reaching that goal.

“I’m not getting ahead myself, like it’s a pipe dream, at 45,” Brees said, via NFL.com. “I understand the challenges that come along with that. But why not? If I can stay healthy, and I’m having fun and playing at a high level, why wouldn’t I wanna do that?”

Brees coincidentally was subjected to a drug test by the league after he made those comments.

At least Brees seemed to have a good sense of humor about the whole situation. The NFL wouldn’t test him after comments like that, but the timing of it all does seem a bit odd. Either way, Brees still has a long way to go if he wants to play until he’s 45 years old.
