Felix Doubront has made it abundantly clear that he is not happy with his transition from starter to long reliever. That didn’t stop him from having a little fun in the bullpen on Sunday, though.
The ‘pens at Tampa Bay’s Tropicana Field are located along the foul lines rather than behind the outfield fence, allowing relievers to mingle with fans if they so choose. Doubront opted to do just that during the early stages of the Boston Red Sox’s 3-2 win over the Rays, giving out a high five to one youngster in attendance.
Doubront spent a great deal of time in that bullpen over the weekend. The lefty did not see the field during the three-game series, and he’s tossed a grand total of 6 1/3 innings in the entire month of July.
