Golf is a maddening sport sometimes, even for the world’s best players. Just ask Henrik Stenson.
The Swedish golfer had a frustrating first round at the Open Championship on Thursday at Royal Liverpool, and that frustration boiled over on the 17th hole. After hitting another poor shot from the rough, Stenson took it out on the golf club. He snapped the wedge over his knee, calmly breaking it into two pieces.
The best part of the whole thing is how he just hands the club back to the caddy as the two walk up the fairway.
This isn’t the first time Stenson’s anger has gotten the best of him. He broke the head off his driver after slamming it on the grass at the BMW Championship last September.
Stenson’s round wasn’t even that bad, either, when it was all said and done. Although he ended up bogeying 17, he rebounded to finish with a birdie on the 18th hole. He ended up shooting an even-par 72, which was six shots off the lead when he walked off the green to end his first round.
