Get this guy a Gold Glove.

Jake Peavy made his first appearance in a San Francisco Giants uniform Sunday night — an otherwise pedestrian outing (six innings, six hits, four runs) highlighted by a bizarre display of defense.

With a man on first in the top of the fifth inning, Giants catcher Buster Posey’s throw back to the mound slipped out of his hand and bounced along the infield grass. Showing some quick reflexes, Peavy dove to his right to snare the errant toss, preventing Los Angeles Dodgers baserunner Dee Gordon from advancing.

That fifth inning proved to be Peavy’s undoing, however. The right-hander allowed three Dodgers runs in the frame en route to a 4-3 loss — his 10th in 21 starts this season.
