Nobody has asked Joe Torre to replace Bud Selig yet, but he’s willing to if they do.
And while Torre said he’s open to taking the MLB commissioner role that will be available when Selig retires in January, he’s not campaigning for it either.
“If the owners feel I can help baseball, I’m willing to do whatever they want me to do,” Torre told the New York Daily News at the annual Joe Torre At Home Foundation 2014 Golf and Tennis Classic on Thursday.
Selig appointed Torre as the executive vice president for baseball operations back in 2011, and while he did say he wants to remain in baseball, he’s not expecting a promotion.
“I don’t envision it; I don’t anticipate it,” Torre said. “I’m certainly not lobbying for it. Tomorrow, I’m going to be 74-years old. I want to stay involved.”
