Joey Chestnut, a seven-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest winner, had a little extra motivation going into Friday’s competition. The defending champ has a wedding to pay for now.
Chestnut proposed to his girlfriend, Neslie Ricasa, in front of the Coney Island, N.Y., crowd before the start of the competition.

Most women don’t dream about being proposed to in front of a giant hot dog mascot, but you can’t deny that it’s fitting for Chestnut. Plus, she said yes, so she couldn’t have minded too much. At least he proposed before the contest.
