This year’s Boston Red Sox aren’t very different from last season’s World Series champions, except for one major thing: their record.
The Red Sox are 43-52 after Sunday’s win over the Houston Astros, which is good for last place in the American League East. At the start of last year’s All-Star break, they were sitting pretty at the top at 59-38.
That’s precisely why manager John Farrell is most disappointed in this year’s record. Had the Sox won half of the 20 games they lost by only one run this season, they’d be in first place yet again.
Still, there’s good that comes with the bad. One of Farrell’s biggest surprises? The emergence of utility man Brock Holt.
