Ever hear the old baseball cliché, “If he hit that ball any harder it would’ve went through his glove”?

Well, Kevin Kiermaier hit the ball that much harder.

In the seventh inning of a game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, the Rays outfielder ripped an 0-1 pitch in the direction of Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer.

The ball entered Hosmer’s mitt on one hop. It didn’t stay there.

An impressive slow-motion replay from FOX Sports Midwest’s broadcast captured the ball going directly through the webbing in Hosmer’s mitt. Fortunately, second baseman Omar Infante managed to pick up the scorching ball and toss it to a befuddled Hosmer for the out.

The Royals ended up losing 4-3, but it looks like Hosmer lost a lot more after Kiermaier burned a gaping hole in his trusty mitt.
