Suso Liverpool BrondbyLiverpool stumbled Wednesday in Denmark as it took its first steps of the 2014-15 season.

Ferhan Hasani scored in second-half stoppage time to give host Brondby a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Reds’ preseason opener. Christian Norgaard scored for Brondby midway through the first half, but Kristoffer Peterson tied the game for Liverpool shortly after halftime.

All 23 players Liverpool brought to Denmark played in part of the game, but not everyone came out unscathed. Defender Tiago Ilori limped off the field in the 21st minute with an apparent injury.

After the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said his young team is ready to build on last season’s success and take further steps in 2014-15.

“We will progress again from last season,” Rodgers said, according to LiverpoolFC.com. “It’s going to be a really exciting season. I’ve seen development in the players already in the short period of time that we’ve been back. This season, we have the belief to go along with the quality.”

Liverpool will return to action Saturday when it faces Preston North End in its second preseason game. The Reds then will leave England for their U.S. tour, which begins next week in Boston, where they will play AC Roma on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
